There’s been a lot of talks lately about Netflix going down in Canada. So is it really down, or is this just another urban legend?

First, let’s take a look at what actually happened. On January 14th, some Netflix users in Canada noticed that they couldn’t access the site. The error message they received said, “Cannot reach Netflix.”

Netflix’s official Twitter account acknowledged the problem and said they were working on a fix.

So what caused this little outrage? Well, it turns out that it was caused by a change in DNS settings. Usually, when you type in “www.netflix.com” into your browser, your computer will automatically look up the DNS settings to find out where Netflix is located.

However, for some users in Canada, their DNS settings were changed to a server in the United States. This meant that when they tried to access Netflix, they were actually being redirected to the American version of the site.

Of course, this caused a lot of problems because the American version of Netflix doesn’t work in Canada.
